Mark VIe Installation
Project Highlights
-
-
- Over $50 million engineering construction and equipment project.
- 18,000 wiring terminations.
- Complicated requirements for system, design, testing and implementation.
-
Project Description
JAX Group personnel were involved in a full upgrade of Plant Vogtle’s Balance of Plant control system upgrade. The original control systems employed vintage stand-alone hardware components that had become obsolete, required unobtainable replacement parts, or were no longer supported by their respective OEMs.
Accordingly, the main objective of this project was to replace all of the existing control systems, associated displays and supporting components with the Mark VIe that increased system availability and provided reliable and event-free operation. The Mark VIe control and indication function upgrade, included but was not limited to:
-
- Main Turbine Speed Control and Protection
- Feed Pump Speed Control and Protection
- Steam Seal Control
- Main Lube Oil Control
- MSR Control
- Stator Water Cooling
- Exhaust Hood Spray Control
Main Step Up Transformer Upgrade
Project Highlights
-
-
- Replaced existing Main Step Up Transformers.
- Performed electrical studies and calculations for replacement transformers.
- Performed testing and commissioning.
-
Project Description
JAX Group personnel were involved in the replacement of the main step up transformers at Plant Vogtle. The original transformers were beyond the 30 year life expectancy. Operating beyond the life expectancy of the transformer created a risk to power generation delivery. Test documents were written by JAX Group Personal to ensure the transformer functioned as designed. On-site support was provided for testing and commissioning.
Generator Relay Protection Upgrade
Project Highlights
-
-
- Replaced electro-mechanical relays with new microprocessor based relays.
- Performed electrical studies and calculations to ensure proper settings of relays.
- Demonstrated NERC PRC compliance.
- Performed testing and commissioning.
-
Project Description
JAX Group personnel were involved in a full upgrade of Plant Vogtle’s main generator relay protection. The original protection consisted of stand-alone relays for each generator protection function. The relay components had become obsolete and post fault analysis was not available. Schweitzer and Beckwith microprocessor based relays were installed to modernize Plant Vogtle’s generator protection system. Test documents were written by JAX Group personnel to ensure the relay’s functioned as designed. On-site support was provided for testing and commissioning.
